Jan 2008 - The Texas Department of Transportation (TDOT) has informed us that they will be installing a signal light at the corner of El Rey and Hwy 290 West sometime in the next 12 months. They cite the fact that their analysis of the intersection found that it qualifies under 3 different warrants; Peak Hour traffic, by greater than 20%; 4 Hour Volume of Traffic, by greater than 40%; and Continuous Traffic over 8 hours, by more than 40%.

Jason Brecht, the TDOT engineer who informed us, said that our intersection will be of a temporary type with cables mounted on 4 wooden poles. Once the freeway is constructed, the light will be removed and the El Rey exit will be a T intersection, with only a right hand turn exit.

Since, apparently, the widening of Hwy 290 through Oak Hill will not happen for another 5 years, the signal light will be very helpful in reducing traffic speed through the area. This should help lower the traffic speed zooming through the RR1826 intersection as well.
